The Power of Setting Goals

The Power of Setting Goals

Setting Goals

Have you ever set goals for yourself? Have you achieved them? If so, you sure know that amazing feeling you get when you put a checkmark beside that specific gift. Setting goals is amazing to help you get motivated on the short and long-term!

How should you structure your goals:

  1. Short-term – approximately 3 months
  2. Medium – approximately 6 months
  3. Long-term – approximately 1 year or longer

When you establish a goal for yourself, it is crucial to use the SMART strategy. For those of you who have never heard of this goal strategy, smart stands for:

The goal needs to be well defined, very clear and precise.

You will only know that you have achieved your goal if you are able to measure it. A goal that isn't measured is very hard to achieve. For example, if you say that you will own your dream house one day. One day is very unspecific. IS it in 5 years, in 20 years of in another life? To stick to your goal and actually achieve it you should be able to track your progress. You should then say, in 10 years, I will be living in my dream house.

This is important because if you set an impossible goal, that you know you won't be able to achieve, you will have lots of discouragements. Set some goals that are realistic and start building your self-confidence with all the small goals you accomplish. You will then be ready to set some goals that you never thought would have been possible before.

Go back to your specific goal and ask yourself why? Why is this goal so important to you? Make sure it is something that really matters to you. When you get through hard times, remember yourself why you first started, why this goal is important to you. You will then find the motivation to get back to work.

Due dates! Those we disliked so much in college. They are so important. They make sure you actually realize your goal before it is too late. No more procrastination, if it really matters to do, there is no better time than NOW to work on your goals. Learn to establish a self-discipline and when you need to get things done, do them. No excuses are accepted.

You Will Find Clarity

Setting Goals will actually help you see clearer. Sometimes we have so many things going on in our lives that we forget to actually focus our energies on what really is important to us. Just by writing them down, it helps you be more clear about where you want your life to go. It will force you to actually take steps to achieve your goals.

So what are you waiting?

Take 10 minutes of your day, sit down and write down your goals. Do it now, at this specific moment otherwise time will fly by and your dreams may never come true.
