They are many reasons why you should stop buying and eating meat. Here are a few reasons why you should rethink your meat consumption. 

1. For the Animals

The conditions of exploitation of animals is not the only reason for becoming vegan, but for many peoples, it remains the main factor in their decision. The miserable farming conditions and mistreatment of animals across the world has been well-documented by popular films such as Cowspiracy and Forks Over Knives. Avoiding animal products is one of the most obvious ways you can take a stand against animal cruelty. 

2. For your Health

Many studies have shown that meat-eaters are more susceptible to heart disease this is caused by the increase of bad cholesterol in their bodies. The risk of developing heart disease among meat-eaters is almost 40 percent higher than for vegetarians or vegans. Some people might also pretend that eating meat in moderation has no harm to our health. As you may know, we are humans, moderation was never our strongest trait. Could you affirm that smoking or drinking moderately has a less negative impact on your health? I am not too sure about that one. Simply try to cut out the meat of your daily life, stop buying it and consuming it and you will actually realize you won't miss it that much. 

3. For the Environment

A recent report from the United Nations concludes that eating meat is "one of the top two or three most significant contributors to the most serious environmental problems, at every scale from local to global". 

It takes around 10 kg of grain to grow 1 kg of meat. Think about it a few seconds, how many people can you feed with 1 kg of meat? How about 1 kg of grain? I am sure that you can do the maths. 

4. Biological Reason

This might be very shocking for you be we are not predators! We are not strong enough to kill an animal barehanded. Real carnivores and omnivores, unlike humans, have an intestinal system, 2 to 4 times the length of their body. And why is that? The intestinal system of a carnivore is designed to absorb all the nutrients from the meat and get rid of all the toxins remaining.

If you leave an apple on the ground, it will eventually dry and it may grow into a tree. But if you leave a piece of meat on the ground it will rot. So what do you think happens to the meat if it stays inside you for long periods of time? Our intestines aren't made to consume meat. Humans intestines are 10–12 meters long, it is quite a journey for a piece of meat come out of your body.

5. Physical Reason

Plant-based meals are a lot easier to digest for humans, and with wise planning, this diet can provide enough proteins for muscle growth. The recovery time after workouts get shorter, and stamina increases.

Meat is a very dense tissue, it consumes a huge amount of energy only to break it down. The same energy that you would use to digest a slice of meat could be used for regeneration, detoxification, and recovery after intense physical activity. This is a much wiser way to use the energy plus you are saving an animals life.

Think wisely next time you are a the grocery store and make the right choice.
